The private Anorbank has acquired the buildings of the Ministry of Energy and the state company "Uztransgaz" in the center of Tashkent for nearly 440 billion sums, according to the Unified Corporate Information Portal.
On December 26, 2024, Anorbank’s Supervisory Board made the decision to purchase the building located at Istikbol Street, house 21. This address houses the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.
The real estate belongs to the subsidiary of "Uzbekneftgaz" — Neft Gaz Bino Inshoat, which is engaged in the rental and management of apartment buildings and housing. In June 2019, the board of "Uzbekneftgaz" relocated to the Kashkadarya region.
On January 27, Anorbank and Neft Gaz Bino Inshoat finalized a sale agreement for 254.55 billion sums ($19.64 million at the Central Bank rate), which accounted for more than a quarter of the bank's net assets. The significant fact regarding this major transaction was published on February 3.
On January 10, the Supervisory Board of Anorbank decided to acquire the building of "Uztransgaz," located at Shahrisabz Street, house 85A. On the same day, a sale agreement was signed for 185.03 billion sums ($14.28 million at the Central Bank rate) — this is 18.11% of the net assets of the digital bank. The significant fact about this major transaction was disclosed on January 13.
Economist Otabek Bakirov, who first drew attention to this news, noted in his Telegram channel that a possible reason for the sale of the institutional buildings is the relocation to the under-construction first district of "New Tashkent," where all government agencies are planned to be moved in the future.
However, he pointed out that there was no prior announcement of an auction for the sale of the real estate before the deal was concluded. According to a blogger who cites sources in the banking sector, Anorbank intends to build a new business center on the site of the acquired buildings.
Previously, Spot reported that banks would be able to purchase commercial premises directly from developers.
