Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of the Chinese Alibaba Group, has registered as a VAT payer in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the press service of the Tax Committee.
On January 28, the international company Alibaba Cloud (Singapore) Private Limited, which specializes in cloud computing, registered as a VAT payer for electronic services provided in Uzbekistan through the VAT office.
Alibaba Cloud has become the second foreign internet company to register for tax purposes in Uzbekistan since the beginning of 2025.
Prior to this, the Swiss company eBay Marketplace GmbH registered on the special site of the Tax Committee. Currently, there are 65 foreign internet companies registered in Uzbekistan.
The pace of registration for new foreign taxpayers significantly decreased in 2024 compared to previous years. Only 6 companies submitted applications, among them the Irish entity of the marketplace Etsy (Etsy Ireland UC).
Additionally, providers of acquiring solutions such as Nexway from France and Contactpay Solution from the UK, the AI-based translation service DeepL, the language course aggregator SaySomethingin.com, and the Emirati Global Intellect Service have also registered as taxpayers.
Over the past year, foreign big tech companies paid nearly $9 million in taxes in Uzbekistan. The volume of services rendered increased by 1.5 times, approaching 1 trillion sums. A blocked TikTok made it into the top ten major taxpayers.
