In 2024, Tesla's sales fell for the first time in over a decade, according to the annual report from the American automaker.

From October to December, Tesla produced 459.4 thousand and sold 495.5 thousand electric vehicles. As noted by Bloomberg, these figures were below analysts' consensus forecast, which anticipated deliveries of 512 thousand cars.

The annual sales of the American company amounted to 1.79 million electric vehicles, which is 1.1% lower than the 2023 figure (1.81 million units).

Associated Press reports that this marks the first decline in annual sales for Tesla since 2011, when just over 1.1 thousand cars were sold.

In turn, the Chinese automaker BYD recently reported selling 1.76 million electric vehicles last year, achieving a record fourth quarter. In 2023, BYD surpassed Tesla in quarterly sales for the first time, but still lags behind in annual figures.

Nevertheless, the Chinese company leads in sales when considering plug-in hybrids as well. Total sales of hybrids and electric vehicles reached 4.25 million units, more than double Tesla's figures.
