The Ministry of Transport has discussed with Yutong Bus the acquisition of 1,000 Chinese buses for Tashkent, according to the press service of the agency.
The Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, talked with Xu Pen, the Vice President of International Marketing at Yutong Bus, about the current tasks related to the modernization of the rolling stock as part of the development of the public transport system in the republic.
The parties exchanged views on the current status of the project for purchasing 200 electric buses, as well as the prospective project for acquiring another 1,000 buses for Tashkent.
The Ministry of Transport also reported discussions regarding aspects related to creating "favorable conditions" for private entrepreneurs to acquire electric buses.
The Minister of Transport emphasized the need to enhance the service support provided by the Chinese company, "considering the growing number of Yutong buses and electric buses operating in Uzbekistan."
In 2023, the Tashkent city administration reached an agreement with the Chinese company BYD to purchase 2,000 electric buses. The first batch of 200 buses was scheduled to be delivered to the capital next year.
In July 2024, Ilkhom Makhkamov shared plans to procure 1,000 buses for regional centers and 200 BYD electric buses for the capital.
In mid-January, the Minister of Transport reported on the president's directive to supply an additional 1,000 new buses to Tashkent in 2025.
