Due to the temporary restriction on the bilateral movement of trucks at the Belarusian-Polish border, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan is in talks to facilitate the passage of cargo trucks belonging to Uzbek national carriers through Lithuanian border crossings, report EastFruit experts.
According to a relevant decree from the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs dated February 21, 2023, the entry and exit of all cargo vehicles at the Belarusian-Polish border has been temporarily restricted at the last open crossing point "Kukuryki-Kozlovichi." Exceptions are made for cargo vehicles registered in EU member states and the European Free Trade Association. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.
As a result, truck congestion has begun at this border point. In light of this, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan is urging national carriers to take the current situation into account when transporting goods to European countries.
Negotiations are underway to ensure the unhindered passage of cargo vehicles belonging to Uzbek national carriers through Lithuania's border crossing points.
We remind you that on December 5, 2022, regular cargo trains were launched from Uzbekistan to Lithuania. The total length of the route, which passes through Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus, exceeds 4,600 km. It has been noted that this new transport corridor will be in demand among Uzbek exporters for delivering goods to European countries.
