Khusanov has become a key player for Lens after the main defender Kevin Danso was temporarily sidelined due to health issues.
The impressive performances of the Uzbek footballer have caught the attention of top clubs, and in December, the sporting director of Lens confirmed that agent Jorge Mendes had been authorized to arrange his transfer.
Despite interest from other clubs in the English Premier League, Manchester City has proven to be the most persistent.
According to Ornstein, the deal is expected to be worth around 40 million euros plus bonuses.
Khusanov's contract with City will be for 4.5 years with an option to extend for an additional season, potentially keeping the player at the club until 2030.
Renowned football insider Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that the clubs have reached an agreement for the transfer of Abdukodir Khusanov. He will become the first player from Uzbekistan in the English Premier League.
The head coach of Lens, Will Still, commented on the situation at a press conference before the match against Le Havre.
He stated that negotiations for Khusanov's transfer are actively ongoing.
The coach also explained the player's absence from training was due to illness, adding that he remains part of the team and will be able to participate in the upcoming game if fit.
“We understand that negotiations are in full swing, but for now, he is our player. If anything changes, you will be the first to know,” Still humorously remarked, hinting at the rapid spread of information in the age of social media.
