ATTO and Uzum Bank have signed an agreement to expand their strategic partnership aimed at developing electronic payments in Uzbekistan's public transport system. Starting from November 1, 2024, bank customers will receive over 1.5 billion sums in cashback for metro payments in Tashkent. The companies plan to leverage the successful experience from the pilot launch and scale up the project.
Passengers will be able to use a unified QR code in the Uzum Bank app to pay for rides on various modes of urban transport. This tool will allow users to save on trips and process payments more quickly. The project's goals are to transition from traditional payments to digital ones, enhance transaction transparency in transport, and reduce paper usage for printing single-use tickets.
“QR code payments in public transport are becoming increasingly popular among Uzum Bank users, and the enhanced cashback in the bank's app makes these services not only convenient but also beneficial. Soon, this payment method will also be available for users on the capital's buses. We have ambitious plans ahead, and the expansion and scaling of our collaboration with Uzum Bank will drive the development of electronic payments in public transport across the entire country,” commented ATTO's Executive Director Davron Shoyokubov.
“Together with ATTO, we launched QR code payments for the metro in the bank's app, and starting in November 2024, we will offer passengers increased cashback with every trip. Paying for transport through digital services is a familiar and understandable tool for users. It saves time on purchasing tickets and increases the transport's capacity. We have already begun testing the service on Tashkent buses and plan to expand the project nationwide so that users can pay for their trips quickly, comfortably, and technologically,” noted Uzum Fintech CEO Yegor Abramets.
