Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree appointing the acting governor of the Syrdarya region, as reported by the president's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov.

The region will be led by Erkinjon Turdimov. Until November 2024, he served as the head of the Samarkand region.

The previous governor of the Syrdarya region, Akmaljon Mahmudaliyev, was relieved of his duties on January 16. The reason cited was his "significant shortcomings" in attracting investments, developing agriculture, and other areas.

Erkinjon Okbutayevich Turdimov (born in 1969) worked at "Uzpromstroybank" from 1991 to 1995, and then until 1996 held the position of deputy governor of Zarafshan. From 1996 to 2000, he was employed at the Navoi branch of the National Bank of Uzbekistan.

Subsequently, Turdimov was appointed the governor of the Khatyrchin district in the Navoi region, and later became the first deputy minister of agriculture and water management. From 2008 to 2016, he headed the administration of the Navoi region, and from December 2016 to July 2018, he served in the Surkhandarya region.

He then became the acting governor of the Samarkand region, and in January 2019, he was officially confirmed in that position. Turdimov led the region until November 2024, when he was succeeded by the head of the Accounts Chamber, Adiz Boboev.

Earlier, Spot reported that Marat Juraev became the first deputy minister of employment and poverty reduction.
