Uzbekistan will establish its first production facility for cross-linked polyethylene (PE-X). This was announced by the press service of "Uzbekneftgaz".
An agreement for the project's implementation at the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex was signed at the beginning of the week, after which work commenced. The operator of the future plant will be the joint venture Nasaf XCP Techno.
The project will involve the Chinese company Yunnan Xinchengpeng Polymer Technology and the local enterprise Technp Cable Group. The investment volume is estimated at $8 million.
The future factory will be able to meet the local demand for 25-30 thousand tons of PE-X per year, which will help reduce imports by $30 million. The project implementation will also create 65 new jobs.
According to the announcement, PE-X is used for electrical insulation needs, in the production of heating systems, and for water and gas pipelines. It differs from regular polyethylene in its enhanced elasticity, strength, and resistance to high temperatures.
