The eBay marketplace has become the first foreign internet company to register for tax purposes in Uzbekistan since the beginning of 2025.
This was reported on a special website of the Tax Committee for electronic service providers. According to the information, the Swiss company eBay Marketplace GmbH registered on January 17.
In 2024, the pace of registration for new foreign taxpayers noticeably slowed compared to previous years. Only 6 companies submitted applications, including the Irish legal entity of the Etsy marketplace (Etsy Ireland UC).
Additionally, the providers of acquiring solutions Nexway from France and Contactpay Solution from the UK, the AI-based translation service DeepL, the language course aggregator SaySomethingin.com, and the Emirati Global Intellect Service also registered as taxpayers.
Since March 2020, a tax regime for foreign e-commerce companies providing services and goods in Uzbekistan ("Google tax") has been in effect. They are recognized as VAT payers concerning sales made to individuals.
To facilitate registration, the Tax Committee established a virtual VAT office. Through this, foreign internet companies operating in Uzbekistan can register and begin paying taxes. The registration procedure was approved in April 2022.
According to the agency, in the first half of the year, foreign IT companies contributed 48.4 billion sums in taxes. About 85% of this amount came from three companies: Meta, Google, and Apple.
