The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has approved in the first reading a draft law to prohibit the import and circulation of electronic cigarettes (vapes). This was reported by the parliament's press service.

During the discussion of the document, its significance for the health of Uzbekistan's citizens, including future generations, was emphasized. According to experts, vapes, along with nicotine, contain up to 80 carcinogenic and toxic substances, as well as heavy metals.

The compounds used in electronic cigarettes harm human health and the environment, noted Health Minister Asilbek Khudoyarov. In combination with the increase in nicotine dependence in the body, they can lead to the formation of brain pathologies and a decline in intelligence among the youth.

The draft law provides for a ban on the production, manufacture, storage, transportation, import into Uzbekistan, and export from the country of electronic nicotine delivery systems, including electronic cigarettes and their liquids.

Similar bans are in effect in 37 countries around the world, Khudoyarov pointed out. The future law will also introduce administrative and criminal liability for violations related to the illegal circulation of electronic cigarettes and other tobacco products.

In April 2024, the Ministry of Health presented for discussion a draft law to ban the import and sale of electronic cigarettes (vapes) and tobacco heating systems. It was proposed to introduce administrative and criminal liability for violations of the ban.
