Uzbekistan and Russia have agreed on fishing quotas for the current year. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.
On January 10, Deputy Minister Kahramon Yuldashev held video talks with the head of Rosrybolovstvo, Andrey Yakovlev. The parties discussed opportunities and prospects for cooperation in the fisheries sector.
The parties agreed to allocate quotas for Uzbekistan for fishing in the Far Eastern fishery basin. These will amount to 20,000 tons of pollock and 5,000 tons of herring.
They also touched upon topics related to scientific and technical cooperation in aquaculture, the development of joint projects and programs, as well as training personnel for the industry. Following the meeting, a final protocol of the first session of the Joint Commission on Fisheries was signed.
The total fishing quota for Uzbekistan in Russia for 2024 included 50,000 tons of pollock and 20,000 tons of herring. Rosrybolovstvo and the association "Uzbekbalyk sanoat" agreed to sign a supplementary agreement on the allocation of fishing quotas.
Last July, a Russian-Uzbek joint venture for fish processing, "Far Eastern Fisheries," began operations. It is owned 50% by Uzbekistan's Fish Yard and 50% by the Russian "Ost Invest Holding."
