During the recent plenary session of the Senate, the "On Food Security" Law was discussed.
The aim of this Law is to regulate relationships in the field of food security.
The provisions of the law cover the provision of safe nutrition to the population with food products that possess nutritional value, the formation of effective market mechanisms, and the production of food products and raw materials.
The law establishes the main directions of state policy in the area of ensuring food security.
In particular, these include the formation of a reserve of food products and raw materials in accordance with minimum consumption norms, and expanding the capacity for adequate and uninterrupted supply of essential socially significant food products to the population.
Furthermore, the government encourages the production of food products in accordance with sanitary, veterinary, veterinary-sanitary, and phytosanitary rules and standards established by legislation.
Activating foreign economic activity, as well as maintaining an appropriate balance between the export and import of essential socially significant food products, is also one of the directions of state policy in the field of food security.
The Ministry of Agriculture is designated as the authorized state body in the sphere of ensuring food security.
It is granted a range of powers, such as implementing a unified state policy in the area of food security, participating in the development and implementation of state programs in the field of food security, preparing proposals to support activities related to the production of food and raw materials, and developing short-term, medium-term, and long-term strategies for improving and developing food production processes based on studying factors adversely affecting food security.
The law also establishes measures taken by the state to prevent food shortages, to form a food balance, and the rights and obligations of consumers and economic entities in the field of food security.
This Law serves to unify and systematize the norms regulating relationships in our country in the field of food security into a single document, as well as to provide comprehensive legal regulation of relationships in this area.
Upon completion of the discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
