The death of a prisoner in the Almalyk colony is now under the oversight of the Ombudsman.

Information has circulated on social media regarding the death of a 21-year-old inmate at Correctional Colony No. 14 in the city of Almalyk. It is reported that the mother of the deceased was visiting him for an extended period from January 26 to 28, during which he did not express any health complaints.

This case has been taken under control by the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.

According to information from the duty unit of Correctional Colony No. 14, on February 14 at 22:45, the inmate experienced a decline in health and sought medical attention from the colony doctors. After receiving initial medical assistance, his condition did not improve, leading to his hospitalization at the Central Hospital of Almalyk.

Despite the medical procedures conducted, the inmate passed away on February 15 at 01:00 from hypertension and acute heart failure.

A forensic examination has been ordered based on the available data.

Currently, the Ombudsman's staff and their regional representative in the Tashkent region are conducting an on-site investigation. Additionally, the Ombudsman's representative in the Fergana region met with the deceased's family to express condolences.

In connection with this case, the Ombudsman has addressed the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Ombudsman demands a thorough, complete, and objective investigation of the incident during the preliminary inquiry.
