The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Pakistan in 2024 surpassed $400 million, with the number of joint ventures reaching 130. This was reported by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan following the negotiations between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif.

During the meeting, the parties confirmed their intention to expand economic cooperation and emphasized the importance of increasing trade turnover to $2 billion in accordance with the adopted "roadmap." Concrete steps have already been taken in this direction: trading houses have been opened in Karachi and Tashkent, direct flights between Tashkent and Lahore have been resumed, and meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, business forums, and an industrial exhibition of Uzbekistan have been held.

Significant attention has been paid to transportation logistics. In recent years, the volume of cargo transportation through the multimodal corridor "Uzbekistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan" has increased fivefold. To further boost transit flows, a decision has been made to establish a joint transport and logistics company.

In addition to economic interaction, the parties expressed their readiness to strengthen cultural and tourism ties. In this regard, an agreement has been reached to hold mutual Culture Weeks and presentations of tourism programs.

At the conclusion of the negotiations, a decision was made to establish a Supreme Council for Strategic Partnership, with its first meeting scheduled for next year. To ensure the timely implementation of the agreements reached, the parties agreed to develop a joint "roadmap."

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Pakistan

Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Uzbekistan's independence on December 20, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two states were established on May 10, 1992. Since then, bilateral cooperation has been steadily developing, covering various areas of interaction.

Economic ties between the countries are strengthening each year. The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Pakistan increased from $122 million in 2019 to $387 million in 2023, indicating an expansion of trade and economic partnership.
