The Spanish company UNVI plans to establish the conversion of Mercedes buses into electric buses in Uzbekistan, as reported by the news agency Dunyo.

The Uzbek Ambassador to Madrid, Farrukh Tursunov, met with the company's CEO, Eloy Pérez. The parties discussed potential collaboration in the automotive industry and "green" transportation.

During the meeting, Pérez expressed interest in jointly producing urban, intercity, and tourist buses, as well as minibuses under the UNVI brand and based on its technologies. The company noted an increase in demand for buses due to a rise in tourist traffic.

Particular attention was given to the project for the "revival" of Mercedes-Benz Conecto buses, which have been taken off routes in Tashkent, through conversion into electric buses. The company plans to establish training for specialists to transfer "advanced technologies."

UNVI proposed to gradually develop a cooperation project based at the SamAuto plant in Samarkand. It is noted that local characteristics and competitiveness will be taken into account during the process.

Update: The company SamAuto stated that they are unaware of any plans for collaboration with UNVI and that this matter is not currently under consideration.

Earlier, Spot reported on plans to launch international bus routes to new destinations, including China.

The company UNVI, established in 1992, is part of the Perez Rumbao S.A. group and has manufacturing facilities in Spain and Portugal. It supplies buses with internal combustion engines and electric motors to EU countries, the UK, Norway, the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Azerbaijan, and other countries.
