Uzbekistan is preparing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the Day of Remembrance and Honors.

В Узбекистане стартовала подготовка к 80-летию Победы во Второй мировой войне и Дню памяти и почестей.

The document notes that it has become a good tradition and value in Uzbekistan to widely celebrate May 9 – Day of Remembrance and Honor, demonstrating particular attention and deep respect for war and labor veterans who made a worthy contribution to the Victory in World War II, the great ancestors who fought for the prosperity and development of the homeland, its defense, as well as honoring the memory of military personnel and law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty during the years of independence.

“The high courage and heroism of our people in defending the homeland serve as an example and a school of moral education for all generations. In particular, about 2 million Uzbeks were mobilized during World War II, of which more than 538 thousand heroically perished on the battlefields, over 158 thousand went missing, and during the years of independence, around 200 military personnel and law enforcement officers gave their lives in the name of protecting the homeland and ensuring the peaceful skies over our people,” - the resolution states.

Events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the Day of Remembrance and Honor will take place in Uzbekistan under the slogan “The heroism for the sake of prosperity, peace, and the defense of the homeland will not be forgotten.”

As part of these events, repairs and improvements will be made to the living conditions of lonely and low-income participants of World War II, and a patronage service will be organized to provide care and ongoing medical assistance to each participant and those who became disabled as a result of the war, with medical specialists assigned to them on a contractual basis. Additionally, free one-time vouchers will be provided to World War II participants and labor front veterans at their request for sanatoriums within the republic, along with one accompanying person.

In honor of May 9 – Day of Remembrance and Honor, meetings of three generations will be held in the parks “Vatanparvar” and other places in Karakalpakstan, as well as in regional centers, featuring the participation of state and public figures, veterans, representatives of science, culture, and arts, youth, and students from military-academic lyceums “Temurbeklar maktabi” and named after Jaloliddin Manguberdi, including members of the youth military-patriotic movement “Vatan tayanchi.”

On May 9 itself, a festive salute and fireworks are planned in the “Yangi Uzbekistan” park, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Honor.

Furthermore, the President signed a decree “On the encouragement of World War II participants,” according to which one-time payments will be made to veterans.

According to the document, a one-time monetary reward has been established for each participant and disabled veteran of World War II in the amount of 10 dollars, for each person equated to a participant of World War II – in the amount of 25 million sums, and for each labor front participant during the war years 1941-1945 – in the amount of 3 million sums.

It is worth noting that last year, as part of the decree from the head of state, one-time payments in the amount of 20 million sums were provided to participants and disabled veterans of World War II in connection with the 79th anniversary of the Victory over fascism.
