The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on January 20 regarding the voluntary ecological labeling of goods and services in Uzbekistan. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice's legal information channel.
The Yashil Belgi system will be utilized in accordance with the ISO 14024 standard for type I labeling programs. The document outlines the procedure for evaluating goods and services against the criteria used for labeling.
The Ministry of Ecology and Environmental Protection will be responsible for regulating Yashil Belgi. It is tasked with developing labeling standards, establishing the procedure for applying relevant marks, as well as recognizing labels from other countries.
The Ministry of Ecology will approve the requirements for organizations involved in eco-labeling and will oversee their authorization. Additionally, it will present proposals to encourage the implementation of waste-free production and reduce environmental impact.
The document also establishes the design of the eco-label used in Uzbekistan. It may be presented in color, black-and-white, or monochrome (light green or dark green) formats.
The resolution will take effect three months from the date of publication — starting April 22.
