Cardholders in Uzbekistan Reminded of the Risk of Blocking Due to Inactivity for One Year

Banks in Uzbekistan may block cards if no transactions have been made for a year. The payment system Humo has reminded cardholders with unused cards to temporarily block them in advance via the Telegram bot @humocardbot.

According to Humo, this measure will help ensure the security of the cards and prevent them from being blocked by the bank.

At the end of January, the publication Bankers.uz reported that banks began warning clients about the potential blocking of cards that remained "inactive" for 12 months. This process may be related to temporary restrictions imposed by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Under the temporary measures, the number of cards issued to one person (by taxpayer identification number - individual (TIN)) is limited to no more than five cards at one bank and 20 across all banks.

However, the Central Bank has not officially imposed a mandatory requirement to block cards that have not been used for 12 months. At the same time, commercial banks have started sending SMS notifications to citizens about their bank cards. The Central Bank clarified that these messages are purely informational and intended to notify owners about the cards issued in their name.
