On February 20, the Senate approved a draft law aimed at protecting parks and green spaces. This information is reported on the website of the upper chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

The document was submitted for consideration by the parliamentary factions “Adolat” and the Ecological Party in November 2024. It specifies a ban on the privatization or alienation of “lands used to meet the cultural and recreational needs of the population.”

The reduction of park areas is not permitted, nor is the construction of new buildings or the expansion of existing ones (except for lightweight structures). Additionally, botanical gardens will be recognized as protected natural areas with a prohibition on privatization and construction.

The draft law provides for criminal liability for violating these restrictions. It was previously reported that only administrative penalties would be applied to violators.

Furthermore, it is planned to outline a system for permitted land use in the Land Code, along with its specific types. This step aims to ensure compliance with land legislation and urban planning norms, as well as to “increase awareness among land users.”

During the discussion of the draft law, it was noted that its adoption would contribute to improving the quality of market and cadastral evaluations for plots of all categories. It is expected that it will lead to the implementation of more effective and rational land use.
