Starting in 2025, the high-speed train Afrosiyob will make stops in the city of Kattakurgan. This was announced by the administration of the Samarkand region.

This initiative is part of the socio-economic development program for the region, which was approved by a presidential decree on November 29, 2024. The document has not been found in the public domain.

The Ministry of Transport and "Uzbekistan Railways" have been tasked with organizing the Afrosiyob train stop in Kattakurgan on the route from Tashkent to Bukhara. Additionally, there is a goal to launch an electric train service on the Samarkand-Kattakurgan route.

The development program includes the establishment of suburban services along the route Bulungur - Samarkand - Juma - Kattakurgan. For this purpose, plans are in place to purchase modern rolling stock and to upgrade the infrastructure of the intermediate stations.

Previously, Spot reported that the route of the Kazakh tourist train "Zhibek Zholy" has been extended to Samarkand.
