In December, the consumer price index increased by 1.04%. This was reported by the Statistics Agency.

The figure reached its lowest value for the last month in several years. For comparison, in December 2023, prices rose by 1.24% over the month, while in 2020, they increased by 1.5%.

The annual inflation rate was 9.8%. Compared to the previous year, it rose by 1%, but it has significantly decreased compared to 2022, when the growth rate was 12.2%.

Food prices in December rose by 1.8%, marking the highest monthly increase since November 2022. For the first time since last January, annual food inflation increased to 2.4% (+0.4%).

Vegetables became more expensive over the past month by as much as 8%, while dairy and oil products increased by more than 5%. At the same time, prices for grains and flour slightly decreased (-0.7%), as well as for sweets (-0.4%). There was a slight rise in prices for fruits (+0.8%), meat (+0.7%), and beverages (+0.3%).

Cucumbers became 1.5 times more expensive, and bell peppers saw a similar increase. Prices for tomatoes rose by (+22%), potatoes by (+6.3%), and cabbage by (+6%), while beets and carrots decreased by more than 4%, and bananas by 13.5%.

Since the beginning of the year, the most significant price increases have been for potatoes (+39.9%), garlic (+19.6%), cotton oil (+15.3%), sunflower oil, and mutton (+14.6%). Eggplants have become nearly half as cheap compared to last December, lemons by more than a third, tomatoes by nearly 30%, eggs by 7.3%, and rice by 6.3%.

Inflation in the consumer goods segment decreased to 0.4% (-0.6%) in December and 7.7% for the year. Clothing, footwear, and furniture increased in price by 0.7% over the month (5.1%, 4.8%, and 5.2% year-on-year, respectively), household appliances by 0.5% (5.3% for the year), and medications by 0.9% (26% for the year). Prices for electronics rose by 0.3% in December and by 1.5% for the year.

Gasoline prices decreased by 0.7% in December, with a 5.9% annual increase. Methane increased by 0.2% over the month and by 21% over the year.

The monthly rate of price growth for paid services remained relatively stable at 0.7%. The annual increase in December reduced to 26.7%, but it remains significantly higher than last year, primarily due to the spring increase in energy tariffs.

Prices in the food service sector rose by 0.7% over the month, while hotel prices increased by 0.2%, with an annual growth of 11.7%. Rent for housing in December became 1.3% more expensive, and since the beginning of 2024, it has risen by 12.8%. Train tickets increased by 0.2% (12.6%), and airline tickets by 0.3% (1.2%).
