“Uzbekhydroenergo” has made its first export of “green energy” certificates through the commodity and raw materials exchange (UzRTSB), according to the press service of the trading platform.
On February 11, the first “green energy” certificates were exported in the “green energy section” of the exchange. “Uzbekhydroenergo” sold 301 certificates for export through exchange trading.
In 2024, more than 64.3 thousand “green certificates” were sold through the platform, totaling over 875.9 million sums. The average exchange rate for one certificate was 13.6 thousand sums each.
“Uzbekhydroenergo” acts as the seller of these certificates in exchange trading. Each certificate verifies the generation of 1000 kWh of electricity using renewable energy sources.
The commodity and raw materials exchange noted that individual entrepreneurs, local enterprises, or foreign companies can freely participate in the trading of “green certificates.”
The introduction of “green” certificates is provided for in the state program for 2023. It was expected that enterprises ensuring at least 30% of their energy from environmentally friendly sources would purchase them.
In July 2023, “Uzbekhydroenergo” began selling “green energy” certificates. The state company planned to issue and sell up to 7 million certificates annually.
Revenues from the sale of “green energy” certificates are exempt from profit tax. The corresponding amendment to the Tax Code of Uzbekistan was approved by the president in February 2024.
