In recent years, coal production in Uzbekistan has been rapidly increasing. While in 2016, the volume of coal extraction was less than 4 million tons, by 2023 it had risen to 6.55 million tons.

In 2024, it was planned to produce 8 million tons of coal — of which 900 thousand tons will be provided by private entrepreneurs. According to estimates, coal reserves in the country amount to 2 billion tons.

In 2025, it is planned to increase coal production in Uzbekistan to 10 million tons, and in the long term — to 20 million tons per year.

The Minister of Mining Industry and Geology, Bobir Islamov, noted that the increase in coal production is facilitated by the growing number of private subsoil users. The President has instructed to increase the number of investment projects in the coal industry, he emphasized.
