The Telegram team has unveiled the first update of the messenger in 2025. The applications for Android and iOS are available in version 11.6, while the PC client is in version 5.10.
The platform has expanded its gift functionality and search capabilities. Additionally, third-party services now have the option to verify chats and accounts.
The update was initially planned for release by the end of 2024. "However, [it] was unfortunately delayed due to the Apple moderators who could not complete the review on time," Telegram stated.
Collectible Gifts
Users will be able to exchange the virtual gifts they receive for collectible images using Telegram stars. These images can be transferred to other users on the platform and sold on NFT marketplaces.
The images for collectible gifts are randomly selected based on variations from the platform's artists. Each collectible gift has unique characteristics, including background color and patterns.
It is also possible to make a gift collectible upon purchase. At the time of the feature's launch, over 1400 image options based on 20 gifts are available.
Third-Party Verification
Official third-party services can assign special badges to user profiles and chats, indicating the authenticity of the account. This solution is expected to help combat fraud and the spread of misinformation.
Only third-party services with verified status from Telegram can provide third-party verification. They are required to submit an application and undergo additional verification.
The badges are displayed next to the account or chat name, and an explanation appears in the profile indicating the organization that assigned the status.
Chat Search Filters
Additional filters for results have become available in the "Chats" search tab. They allow users to refine results and view search outcomes based on keywords from personal chats, groups, and channels.
The new feature is accessible via the "From All Chats" button, which appears at the top of the "Messages" section in the "Chats" tab when a query is entered.
QR Code Scanner
The Telegram camera module has introduced the ability to recognize QR codes. This enables users to open links in this format without switching between applications.
To quickly open the camera in the iOS app, simply swipe right on the main screen. In the Android client, there is a dedicated button in the lower right corner.
Other Features
Users can now leave reactions to official messages from Telegram. This includes notifications about receiving a gift, a user joining a group, making a call, or participating in a video chat.
Premium subscribers will also be able to add custom emojis to the names of folders for chats and channels, allowing them to highlight the necessary folders.
Previously, Spot reported that Telegram applied for a license in Malaysia.
