By the decree of the president, Erkinjon Okbutayevich Turdimov has been appointed as the acting governor of the Syrdarya region. This was announced by the press secretary of the head of state, Sherzod Asadov.
Erkinjon Turdimov (born in 1969) served as the head of the Samarkand region from July 2018 until the end of November 2024. Media reports indicated that he was leaving the position due to health issues. However, the president's press service stated that he was relieved of his duties "in connection with his transition to another job."
Previously, from December 2016, he was in charge of the Surkhandarya region, and from 2008 to 2016, he held the position of governor of the Navoi region. From 1991 to 1995, he worked in the regional branches of Uzpromstroybank, and then until 1996, he served as the deputy governor of Zarafshan.
The former governor of the Syrdarya region, Akmaljon Mahmudaliev, was relieved of his duties last week due to significant shortcomings in attracting investments and developing agriculture in the region. Additionally, 16 other governors received reprimands.
