On December 27 of this year, the award ceremony for the winners of the republican stage of the national contest "Woman of the Year" took place.
The ceremony was opened with a welcoming speech by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva.
During the event, it was emphasized that the participation of women in the socio-political, economic, and spiritual life of New Uzbekistan is expanding.
The national legislative framework has been improved to meet international standards in this area, with around 100 regulatory acts adopted aimed at protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women in the country.
As part of the Strategy "Uzbekistan - 2030," a wide range of measures is being implemented to enhance the political, social, and economic activity of women, protect motherhood and childhood, and ensure gender equality, rights, and interests of women.
Today, the share of women in government has reached 35%, in entrepreneurship - 37%, and in the structure of political parties - 49%.
Women make up 38% of the deputies in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (57 individuals), 27% of the members of the Senate (16 individuals), and 25% of the deputies in local Kengashes.
The proportion of women holding ministerial positions and equivalent roles was around 3% in 2018, and it has doubled to 5.7% in the recent period.
The achievements of our country in the area of gender equality are deservedly recognized internationally. In 2024, Uzbekistan scored 72.8 points on the Gender Equality and Governance Index. As a result, Uzbekistan ranked 52nd, rising from 103rd place in 2022. This Index covers 158 countries and helps identify successes and shortcomings on the path to achieving gender equality.
The number of women entrepreneurs has doubled, exceeding 205,000. Intensive work is being carried out on professional training for women and providing them with loans on favorable terms.
It is worth noting that, according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 7, 2022, No. UP–87, and the corresponding resolution of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis dated April 27, 2022, the national contest "Woman of the Year" is held to identify exemplary women in all respects who actively participate in public life, to inform the general public about their activities, and to promote best practices.
This year, 3,091 women participated in the district (city) stage of the contest. In the republican, regional, and Tashkent city stages, 1,146 women participated, and 150 qualified for the republican stage.
The contestants were awarded in 12 nominations. Awards were also given to those who took first, second, and third places, respectively.
A participant from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Nigora Palvanova, became the holder of the Grand Prix - the highest award of the national contest "Woman of the Year." The winner received a gift from the President - a car.
