According to data from the press service of the head of state, the President of Uzbekistan highlighted that in recent years the country has established fruitful cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer across 22 areas. In 2024, Uzbekistan's trade turnover with the union countries increased by 11 percent. In October, a new three-year cooperation plan with the Eurasian Economic Commission was adopted, encompassing about 40 activities in sectors such as trade, industry, finance, agriculture, transportation, and more.
Uzbekistan has also actively engaged in several sectoral programs of the EEU related to trade and cargo digitalization, implementation of e-commerce, and combating climate change. Preparations are underway for the fourth meeting of the Joint Working Group in March next year. Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to hold this meeting in Uzbekistan.
In his speech, the head of state outlined the priorities for expanding Uzbekistan's cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union.
- Implementation of coordinated measures for the gradual removal of trade barriers. It was suggested to explore the possibility of signing a mutual agreement on the non-application of tariff and non-tariff restrictions in trade between Uzbekistan and the EEU at the expert level.
- Uzbekistan's participation in the upcoming Agreement on a unified customs transit system will facilitate the expansion of trade operations. The importance of expediting the agreement on electronic data exchange regarding goods and vehicles crossing customs borders was emphasized.
- Connecting to the mechanisms and tools supporting industrial cooperation and localization programs initiated within the EEU. To establish reliable financial sources for promoting joint projects, Uzbekistan plans to complete procedures and join the Eurasian Development Bank at the beginning of next year.
- Strengthening systematic interaction in the field of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. Specifically, there was a willingness to collaboratively address issues related to Uzbekistan's integration into the EEU Integrated Information System and the "Digital Union" project.
- Preparation of a Cooperation Program in the agricultural sector. This involves measures to facilitate mutual access for agricultural products to markets, the implementation of innovative agro-industrial projects, and the introduction of advanced scientific developments.
- To encourage tourism exchanges, a procedure will be implemented allowing citizens of EEU states to enter Uzbekistan using internal documents.
