Bahodir Kurbonov is highly likely to become the president of the Uzbekistan Football Association.

According to the AFU, on January 20, the Association reached out to its members requesting nominations for this position. The electoral committee reviewed the submitted proposals for compliance with the Charter and the Electoral Code of the organization. As per the procedure, the final list of candidates was submitted to the UFA Secretariat 30 days prior to the Congress.

On February 12, 2025, all AFU members received official information regarding the date, venue, and agenda of the upcoming Congress, as required by Article 33 of the organization's Charter. Additionally, in accordance with the Electoral Code, the official list of candidates was published in the media.

Earlier, in January 2025, Abdusalam Azizov resigned from his position as president of the AFU. He took the helm of the organization in July 2019 and was re-elected in September 2021.

In November 2024, Azizov stepped down as chairman of the State Security Service, and in December, he was appointed deputy advisor to the president on youth policy.
